José Senaido Mendiola, 64 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, OH, entered into eternal life Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a five-month courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 4, 1945 in LaFeria, Texas. Lorain has been his home since 1948. He was employed as a welder at American Ship Building in Lorain then went on to train and work as a millwright with Union Local #1871, retiring in 2005. After retiring, José enjoyed spending his time owning and operating Joe's Towing in Lorain.

Scrap tin is again being gathered up in the different sardine factories in Eastport and vicinity because the refuse is in big demand when shipped away. In recent years, more attention has been given to the waste pieces of tinplate, for formerly it was allowed to drop to the beach and came in for a "salt bath" until it was found that there was a demand for it. The scrap tin now sent out is clean and worth something.50 years ago, 1957
