Ah, the glitz. The glamour. The stars. Although the real Oscar event was taking place on the other side of the country, that didn't stop Washingtonians from engaging in Potomac-style red-carpet waltzing and champagne popping in their own milieu Sunday night.
At the Hard Rock Cafe in Northwest, a glamorous soiree - featuring the capital city's young-and-beautiful crowd, and one of 52 Oscar parties nationwide officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - unfolded to benefit the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Dorothy Mae Simpson Bailey, 96, of 3100 Shore Drive, passed away Sept. 14, 2010. Born in Washington, D.C., April 8, 1914, she was the only child of the late Walter Scott Simpson and Elsie Berry Simpson.
Dorothy graduated from McKinley High School in the District of Columbia. In 1938 she married James McKelvy Newkirk Bailey, started her family during the war years and raised them in Washington, D.C. Dorothy worked for many years on the staff of the Pathfinder Printing Company in Washington, and later retired in 1979 from the D.C. Chapter of the American Red Cross National Capital Area, District of Columbia Office, after 20 years of service. In 1990 she moved to Virginia Beach where she resided at Westminster-Canterbury and attended Eastern Shore Chapel.
