, age 84 formerly of Gap passed away at Landis Homes of Lititz on Friday, March 18, 2011. He was the husband of Helen Wilhelm Stoltzfus with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage on July 26th of last year. He was born in Kinzers, PA, son of the late Paul B. and Cora A. Smoker Stoltzfus. He was a member of Gap Community Church. Ira had worked for Claude Werntz, hauling eggs for Producers Pride Co-op of Coatesville. He was also owner operator of a milk truck in the late 1960's. Along with his wife they were the founders and worked together for 21 years as owners of the Gap Auction, retiring in 1988. When speaking to community groups or writing articles for local publication I take a great deal of pride in being able to tell those fellow citizens that "farm dollars typically circulate seven times in the local economy prior to leaving the area for corporate headquarters elsewhere.
The reason for this acclamation is family farm operations depend upon local businesses for the products and services that they need. Farmers buy feed from the local co-op. They purchase fuels from the same local sources.
