Twelve of AMEU's 14 board members were present for the occasion, including Rosmarie Sunderland, widow of Jack Sunderland, who accepted an award citing her late husband's "vision, leadership and humanitarian efforts." Sunderland also was a co-founder in 1968 of American Near East Refugee Aid, which operates in the occupied Palestinian territories, Lebanon and Jordan to provide relief supplies and collaborate with local institutions in education, health and community development projects.

AMMAN, Jordan, Nov. 9 /U.S. Newswire/ -- American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) and the Intel Corporation today announced an agreement to build the "Intel Information Technology Center of Excellence" at the Islamic University of Gaza in the Gaza Strip. This agreement with ANERA expands Intel's comprehensive, multi-year "Digital Transformation Initiative for the Middle East" and underscores the company's long-term commitment to promote technology skills, knowledge transfer and economic development in the region. The Arab American Institute Foundation's 2004 Kahlil Gibran Spirit of Humanity Awards ceremony was held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC on May 4, 2004. Among those who were honored at the event was world-renowned athlete Muhammad Ali who received the Award for Lifetime Achievement and the American Near East Refugee Aid with the Award for International Commitment.

American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) hosted its annual dinner Sep 17 in Washington DC, where it is based, on the theme, "education Creates the Future." A reception beforehand featured beautiful handicrafts and art to be bid on at a silent auction to raise funds for ANERA's ongoing projects to aid refugees. Founded in 1968, ANERA has worked with 3.2 million Palestinians under occupation, 60% of whom love below the poverty line on less than $2 a day.
