INDUSTRY - Friends and family members bid their final farewells to a La Puente man and Army veteran Friday, however his legacy lives on through the veterans' motorcycle group he launched three months ago.
Ernie Robles, 62, died in his sleep Dec. 14. He was installed as the first president of the American Legion Riders, Chapter 75, at American Legion Post 75 in La Puente.

David Caldwell learned first hand the sacrifices that American service members make in the defense of their country.
Recently retired from the 911th Air Lift Wing Air Force Reserves out of Coraopolis, Caldwell helped transport those wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan on the final trip home.

OXFORD - An American Legion motorcycle group will kick off a fundraising effort Tuesday with a series of rides.
The American Legion Riders will hold a bike run from the Anderson- Staples Post 112 in Oxford every half hour between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. The rides will end at McDonald's in Paris, where judges will award prizes for the oldest bike, furthest traveled by tar, and best paint job.

In 2005, at age 88, he started a motorcycle group American Legion Riders Post 73. He needed more members to fill the coffers for his St. Albans American Legion post. He needed more money to finance the gun he wanted for the yard at the post home. Today, the refurbished howitzer sits majestically on the lawn just the way he envisioned it. Cecil Broom knows how to get things done. Recognized as the godfather of the West Virginia Landlords Association, he organized the group in 1982 to better lobby state lawmakers. The association boasts chapters in 14 counties. He still holds the title of executive director. HOPEWELL - Two Rivers Chapter, the American Legion Riders, Hopewell Memorial Post 146 has again accepted the challenge of leading the 2011 effort to decorate the graves of the Tri-City area's only national Cemetery, "City Point National Cemetery" with wreaths from the Wreaths across America Program.
The ceremony will take place at noon (EST) on Dec. 10, and includes this fund raising effort; a motorcycle escort of the "wreaths" truck to the cemetery; a military color guard; a wreath- laying by uniformed members of each of the five services and the merchant marines; remarks by officials and attendance by dignitaries and citizens of the surrounding communities, who in turn place wreaths at individual graves to honor those veterans interred there.

WINTERVILLE and EAGLE LAKE - Robert "Bob" Parent, 60, died peacefully Oct. 29, 2011, surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born March 24, 1951, in Waterbury, Conn., son of Louis and Rachel (Michaud) Parent.
Bob was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and served in the U.S. Army and Navy, 173 Airborne Bte. Association, belonging to the American Legion Riders and American Legion, both of Madawaska.
