Sumaia Masoom, a Platteville High School freshman, won the 2011 American Legion Oratorical Contest, sponsored by The Wisconsin American Legion, on Saturday.
Each contestant delivered a prepared oration about some phase of the U.S. Constitution as well as an oration on a randomly assigned constitutional topic. Masoom's winning oration was entitled: "We The People.

All Maine high school students are invited to participate in the 2012 American Legion National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program, a constitutional speech contest.
Competing students will participate in a local Legion Post contest with the winner advancing to that areas district contest. The subsequent winner will advance to the state finals, and that winner will represent Maine in the national contest in Indianapolis in April 2012.

REDLANDS - John Paul Beall Frehner, 17, a senior at Redlands High School, won the countywide American Legion oratorical contest held recently at American Legion Post 106 in Redlands. He was sponsored by Post 106.
First runner-up was Matthew Delgado, 17, a senior at Carter High School in Rialto. He was sponsored by Robert Allen Romo Post 422, Rialto.

WATERVILLE -- High school students in grades nine to 12, of public schools, private schools, parochial schools and home- schooled, are invited to compete in the 2012 American Legion National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program, a constitutional speech contest.
Students will compete in a local Legion post contest and the winner will compete in that area's district contest. The district winner will advance to the state finals. The department winner will represent Maine in the national contest in Indianapolis in April, with the national organization funding round-trip tickets, two nights at a hotel and daily allowances for both the contestant and a chaperon over 21 years of age.
