A nursing home's failure to provide adequate staffing care led to three guilty pleas Tuesday in the federal court in St. Louis after state and federal investigators uncovered a conspiracy to defraud the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Reports of malnutrition, deadly bedsores and physical abuse were just some of the problems reported by U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway's office in a statement detailing the pleas entered by American Healthcare Management Inc., three St. Louis-area facilities managed by the company, and its executive.
