S. issues terror alert after Iran plot exposed WASHINGTON -- The State Department is warning Americans around the world of the potential for terrorist attacks against U.S. interests following the exposure of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States. In a new worldwide travel alert issued late Tuesday, the department said the foiled scheme could be sign that Iran has adopted a "more aggressive focus" on terrorist activity. It said Iranian-sponsored attacks could include strikes in the United States, where the alleged plot against the Saudi envoy was supposed to have taken place, as well as other countries. WASHINGTON - The Obama administration accused Iranian government agents Tuesday of plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in the U...
NORFOLK It's a late January night at Norfolk Christian High, and as is the case more often than not, there's no one on the basketball court capable of giving James McAdoo a game.
WASHINGTON - Last month, the walls of the Libyan Embassy on the seventh floor of the Watergate office building here were barren. Hazy penumbras of dirt showed where portraits of Moammar Gadhafi had hung. A lone travel poster touting a visit to the Roman ruins of Tripoli survived the purge of wall hangings after Libya's revolution - and even that poster had had to be altered: Masking tape covered Gadhafi's name for his country, the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, the last word of which meant "state of the masses. I don't want to see this name anymore," says Ali Aujali, and because he is Libya's ambassador to the United States, he gets to decide what goes on the walls.
One of the enduring mysteries of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East is why successive administrations have tried to deal with the thugs that rule Syria with an iron fist. Now that protests have reached the Syrian capital, one can only hope that the Obama administration will withdraw its recently installed ambassador and sever ties with the Alawite Baathist terrorist state. The rap sheet on the Assad regimes is lengthy. Hafez Assad, an incompetent air force general, seized power in 1970 after leading Syria to defeat in the Six Day War in 1967 as defense minister and backing down on his threat to invade Jordan during that country's Black September civil war. His armed forces would go on to suffer defeat in the Yom Kippur War in 1973 under his leadership. Not content with oppressing hi...
Alec English (cute kid, but no relation) just spent 19 days in the United Kingdom as a People to People Student Ambassador. People to People was founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower because he believed "peaceful relations between nations require mutual respect between individuals." The idea is to send young people abroad to learn about other cultures while sharing about our country. A potential ambassador must be nominated, recommended and interviewed before being accepted. The student must also pay expenses for the overseas trips People to People organizes. Alec doesn't know who nominated him, but two teachers and a Boy Scout leader gave recommendations, and once he was accepted, the fundraising began. Alec's grandmother, Janet Monday, sold candy bars while he sold pasta. ...

He often wore a green blazer "bedazzled" with pins from community activities during his business and volunteer work, Chamber of Commerce executive director Kathie Thurston said.
DETROIT, May 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A new, statewide poll shows that Michigan residents oppose the idea of building a new Canada to Detroit bridge if the Canadian and Michigan governments would pay for the crossing. The poll conducted by political consultant Dick Morris surveyed five hundred Michigan residents. They were asked if they preferred a bridge paid for by the two governments, or a second Ambassador Bridge span that is privately financed. 51.8% of the respondents favored the second Ambassador Bridge span, 27.6% preferred the government owned bridge, and 20.6% did not know.
