Two of Kanawha County's alternative schools will be moved to a new location in the next year.
The East Academy Alternative School and Tyler Middle School will be relocated to the old Chandler Elementary building by the start of next school year, Kanawha County schools officials said during a Thursday school board meeting.

You may not know it, but one of D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray's key election pledges is in danger of falling hopelessly behind schedule. A critical component of Mr. Gray's "One City" campaign was for the District's publicly funded charter schools, which are independent of D.C. WOODLAND PARK -- Paterson Schools Superintendent Donnie Evans said the district will open two to three additional alternative schools in coming weeks for intensive discipline and instruction for disruptive students.
In a meeting with the The Record's editorial board on Wednesday, Evans said the district was in discussions with Big Picture, a private alternative schools operator that operates three schools in Newark. Some of the schools have departed from traditional teaching methods -- for example, Urban Academy, a high school has no tests or grades, and few textbooks.
