While editing a story recently, I noticed that our spell-checker wanted to change Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Ruth Badger Ginsburg and Barbara Walters to Barbara Wallets. Sure, Ruth is tenacious and Barbara probably needs oodles of wallets to hold all of her money, but the spellings are still inaccurate. It reminded me of an incident last year, when a yearbook company's computer spell- checker ran amok and changed the names of students at Middletown High School. Lauren Givler became Lauren Giver. Max Zupanovic became Max Supernova. And Kathy Carbaugh became Kathy Airbag.
