Dear Car Fix: One brutally cold day, I had the misfortune of a flat tire. AAA sent a tech to change the tire. As shown in my manual, he broke the nuts while the tire was on the ground and then struggled mightily to remove the nuts remarking that they were torqued on too tight with an impact gun. I took the car to a national tire shop for repair and replacement of the broken and stripped nuts and bolts. I then returned to my mechanic, who had just rotated my tires, and explained what was said and he set about to explain that the use of alloys that do not withstand frigid weather was the cause of the damage and that the nuts should be broken off ground and removed with an impact gun. The Volvo brand is an enigma. You don't see or hear a lot about the brand. The company has had various owners throughout the years. Its a fringe brand that has to compete against more well-known names like BMW, Acura and Audi. But get behind the wheel of the Volvo S60, as I did, and you'll realize Volvo deserves a second look. My tester for the week was the 2012 Volvo S60 T6 R-design. This four-door sedan has everything you could want, including a turbo- charged engine. The R-design adds even more power, a sport chassis and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Powering the A5 I tested was Audi's new 3.2-liter FSI engine, which produces 265 hp and a superb torque of 243 ft. lbs. And a run I had driving back from LA to Vegas in the coupe allowed me the opportunity to get a feel for what the A5 is really capable of. According to Audi, the 3.2-liter A5 clocks a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.1 seconds. The TTs unique styling has been a defining element of the car. And while Audi has done a few styling modifications over the years, it's still as distinctively "TT" as when it was launched back in 1998. While available in two engine models - a 3.2 liter V6 and a 2.0 turbocharged 4-cylinder - I'd definitely opt for V6. The 2008 2.0 model we reviewed is quick and nimble due in large part to a frame that's 58 percent aluminum and 42 percent steel, which makes it light. But with only 200 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque, the power is a little disappointing when matched with the TT's styling is.
