Paterno, the winningest coach in major college football, was ousted at the end of day that began with his announcement to retire at end of the season, his 46th. But that was not to be.

FRANKLIN -- A veteran special education teacher who is the focus of a police investigation for allegations of child abuse in school submitted her resignation late last week from the Franklin City Schools.
The teacher is accused of binding shoes to a student's feet with masking tape, causing bruising, according to a police report.

WASHINGTON, June 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A national survey of 10,000 Americans reveals 11% report they have been falsely accused of abuse. The first-ever survey of its type probed persons' first-hand experiences with false allegations of child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual abuse. The study was commissioned by Stop Abusive and Violent Environments, a victim advocacy organization.
The survey results headlined a False Allegations Summit, which was held today at the Fairfax Hotel in Washington, DC.

Under three directors in as many years, the Franklin County Department of Social Services' budget and demand for its services have grown rapidly.
The economy has made the department and its services -- such as food stamps and energy assistance -- a popular, hectic place. In the past six months alone, the complaint log for allegations of child abuse has nearly doubled, said Deborah Powell, who took over leadership of the department in April.
