In the case of the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show, Ed Smith walked into Herman Agoyo's office at Ohkay Owingeh (then San Juan Pueblo) in 1971 and said he thought it would be a good idea to have a few artists and craftsmen, as well as food vendors, to help celebrate the opening of the Pueblo's Arts and Crafts Cooperative. Agoyo, former Eight Northern executive director and a past Ohkay Owingeh governor, agreed. That show, he said recently, was so financially successful for participants and for the Pueblo that founders decided to make it an annual event and expand it to include all the eight northern New Mexico Pueblos....
