REVIEW My Life in Ruins No stars RATING: PG-13 (sexual content) DIRECTOR: Donald Petrie CAST: Nia Vardalos, Alistair McGowan, Alexis Georgoulis LOS ANGELES - As we learn from "My Life in Ruins," the Greek word for mojo - or zest for life - is "kefi." Nia Vardalos' character has lost hers and needs to get it back.
The beaming, sunny face of Nia Vardalos and her big, glorious country are so appealing that one fervently wishes that "My Life in Ruins" was more than just a bland TV movie. Still, a theater ticket, especially with the economy being what it is, is a good deal cheaper than a flight to Greece. As photographed by Jose Luis Alcaine, the seaside and ruins of this ancient mecca are gorgeously and lovingly caressed on the wide, color screen - a better view than you'd probably get if you took the trek across the pond.

She didn't write it, but it is tailor-made for her. This romantic comedy built around a lovelorn tour guide, the annoying people she works for and the annoying tourists she takes around Greece plays like a laugh- starved companion piece to My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Sometimes it seems no one in Hollywood is capable of learning a simple lesson: You can't replicate a sui generis success. You'd think Nia Vardalos would have figured it out by now. The Canadian-born actress became practically an overnight success when "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," the 2002 independent film she wrote and in which she starred, became the highest-grossing romantic comedy in history. She followed that hilarious charmer with the television series "My Big Fat Greek Life" the following year; it lasted just seven episodes.
