Mr. and Mrs. Fred Williams of Roanoke, married on September 14, 1961, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an intimate family reception hosted by their children. Phyllis and Fred are the parents of four children, daughter Lora and son-in-law Mike Mowbray, daughter Lisa and son-in-law Donnie Sutliff, both of Botetourt, son David and daughter-in-law Alison Williams of Roanoke and one deceased son, Tommy Hayes. Maw Maw and Paw Paw have seven grandchildren: Jessica, Morgan, Taylor, Joseph, Carie, Holleigh and Michael. Tribute To Family

Alison Anthony is the director of Diversity and Community Relations at Williams and president of the Williams Foundation. She joined Williams in 1999 and previously served in roles at the company as manager of diversity, human resources business partner, consultant for performance management and leadership development and director of Employee Relations. Prior to joining Williams' staff, she worked in the staffing industry as well as in higher education at Oklahoma State University, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in English.

• Cancer Research Heats Up; Heat Makes Some Cancers Become More Treatable with Radiation

WASHINGTON (AP) - The tumors looked like five large mosquito bites dotting Alison Williams' chest. The cancer that already had cost her breasts was back again, this time in the wall of her chest, an ominously hard-to-treat spot. Her doctor tried an experiment, beaming microwaves onto Williams' chest to heat it to about 109 degrees. The hope: that the heat would help radiation treatment attack the tumors - and they disappeared.

Kim Dyches of the Utah Department of Environmental Quality's Division of Drinking Water in Salt Lake City has been elected water division director on the Association of Boards of Certification's board of directors. During his two-year term beginning Jan. 1, Dyches will represent water treatment, distribution and very small water system members. As field services section manager for the Utah Division of Drinking Water, Dyches oversees the Cross Connection Control and Sanitary Survey programs and is directly responsible for the operator certification and emergency response programs.
