KETTERING -- Bodies and skateboards were flying everywhere, usually together, Wednesday at the Kettering Skate Plaza in celebration of Go Skateboarding Day. Tom Sloan's father-in-law suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Nearly five years ago, Sloan and his wife, Darlene, moved to Charleston from California to be closer to her aging parents in Beckley and to help take care of her father, Claude Burton. Hosted by the Actors Theatre-Kentucky's only professional African-American theater company-the Juneteenth Jamboree celebrates African-American independence and its legacy with plays, concerts and staged readings.
