Alternative rock acts P.O.D. and Alien Ant Farm will headline a benefit concert in honor of 17-year-old Moreno Valley murder victim Norma Lopez. The concert runs from noon to 5 p.m. at Moreno Valley College. Other acts include Butterscotch, the Adam Lasher Band, Paloma, Cruz, The Ringleader D.J. Ace and a surprise guest.
With this disc, even though there are some well-crafted tunes-"Crickets," "San Sebastian," and "Supreme Lifestyle" are the best of the bunch here-the work could have been done by any of the nu-rock bands haunting the Top 40 over the last few years. Call me a snob, but I like bands whose work stands out from their peers, bands whose skill or technique or style is so uniquely theirs that you can identify a song from them you've never heard before just by a guitar riff or a vocal trill.

NEW DORIS DAY CD DUE The first album of new material in decades from Hollywood legend Doris Day, now 87, will be released in the U.K. on Sept. 5. "My Heart" will be available domestically as an import CD, according to her website. The CD is a compilation of previously unreleased recordings produced by her son, Terry Melcher, prior to his death in 2004. About the album, she says, "These are the tunes that reflect my love of animals, and my love for my son.

Universal CityWalk debuts its 5 Towers outdoor concert arena tonight, with the hopes of making it the center of free music in Southern California - and maybe the free world. Five 42-foot high, steel tower sculptures define the concert space in CityWalk's main plaza, between the movie multiplex and the Hard Rock Cafe. The 31-by-24-foot stage is permanent, and there's an upgraded, 26-by-14-foot LED monitor mounted above it.
