Currently, Arabic and Chaldean language services are needed the most for patients at Beaumont, followed by Spanish, Russian, and Albanian. In 2008, Arabic and Chaldean patients made up 46% of those seeking language assistance compared with 19% for Spanish, 12% for Russian and 4% for Albanian. The hospital currently offers translation services for 41 different languages including sign language for the hearing-impaired.

From the "Translator's Note" readers learn that the three stories, "Agamemnon's Daughter," "The Blinding Order" and "The Great Wall," were written at different times, set in different historical periods and have been translated from the Albanian by two different people Tedi Paparvrami and Jusuf Vrioni who wrote their translations in French.
