LOGAN -- The Utah State Aggies have a long, valid list of reasons to explain their 3-8 season that included a six-game losing streak. The list includes seven road games totaling 23,338 miles traveled (the most in college football history); a tough schedule that included Alabama, Utah and Clemson; injuries; and just four home games.
LOGAN -- With teams like Clemson and Alabama on his schedule, Utah State football coach Mick Dennehy paid the University of Utah quite a compliment when describing the Utes earlier in the week. Overall, as a football team in all three phases, maybe the best team we face all year long," Dennehy said.
Last week's release of the 2012 Southeastern Conference football schedule created a local buzz -- and for good reason. Among the four SEC teams coming to Columbia next fall is Alabama, a school that shares a brief but notable history with Missouri. In the teams' first of three meetings, Dan Devine's Tigers throttled Bear Bryant's Crimson Tide 35-10 in the 1968 Gator Bowl. Al Onofrio's Tigers did the same seven years later in Birmingham, stunning Bryant's second-ranked Tide 20-7 on national TV. Bryant had the last laugh in the third and final meeting, beating Warren Powers' Tigers 38-20 in 1978 in Columbia.

Ole Miss was the biggest loser yesterday when the Southeastern Conference unveiled its 2012 schedule. Freeze, formerly the head coach at Arkansas State, will lead the Rebels into road games at Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia and LSU. In other words, the four best teams in the SEC. Gulp.
