Federal prosecutors on Thursday signaled that the investigation into former D.C. Council member Harry Thomas Jr.'s scheme to bilk $350,000 in city funds is still active, even if the ousted lawmaker is already serving time at a prison in Alabama.
During a status hearing for Danita C. Doleman, who ran a nonprofit that Thomas used to pass through funds he received from the D.C. Children and Youth Trust Corp., Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Haray quickly asked Judge John D. Bates for another status hearing on Jan. 10 to handle "related ongoing matters that we think would be appropriate to wait for.

Former D.C. council member Harry Thomas Jr. was sentenced Thursday to 38 months in prison for stealing more than $350,000 in public funds, a "case of betrayal" that swapped his reputation as a mentor to young athletes for the shame of becoming the District's first elected official to be convicted of a felony.
S. District Judge John D. Bates weighed Thomas' track record of service to Little League Baseball and other programs in Ward 5 against the "irony" of his extensive theft of youth sports-related funds to buy a luxury vehicle, go on lavish trips and purchase three pairs of what prosecutors termed "exotic shoes.

MILFORD -- The Foran-Milford football team's offense has been criticized for being too plain and simple all season long. But when the Lions defeated Law-Milford 43-0 in the annual Thanksgiving Day matchup at DeVito Field Thursday, it was taken as somewhat of a compliment.
Some people say we have a vanilla offense, but I guess I like vanilla because things seem to work," Foran coach William Vitelli said with a laugh. "We were able to wear teams down and make things happen. I guess if we have a vanilla offense, we must have a wild cherry defense because they make things happen on defense, and they put us in a position to win. That's a special feeling.
