NMFS has received an application from the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) requesting authorization to take marine mammals incidental to various training exercises at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point Range Complex, North Carolina. The USMC's activities are considered military readiness activities pursuant to the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), as amended by the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2004. Pursuant to the MMPA, NMFS is requesting comments on its proposal to issue an incidental harassment authorization (IHA) to the USMC to take bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), by Level B harassment only, from specified activities.

Air Force Maj. Peter L. Beck is an assistant professor of Aerospace Studies assigned to the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Detachment 432 at the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Miss.
He was born in Baldwin Park and attended Bishop Amat Memorial High School in La Puente, graduating in 1988. He enlisted in the Air Force and reported to Basic Military Training in December 1989.

CENTERVILLE -- An Air Force Reserve Office Training Corps cadet from Centerville lost his right leg from the knee down after he was injured in a parachute jump last month at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Matthew Pirrello, a 2009 graduate of Alter High School, is in fair condition at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs after being injured June 25 during a parachute jump while he was attending a summer airmanship course.
