CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Spring is in the air and with this season comes many rituals and projects, such as cleaning, organizing, and maintaining safety systems. One very important ritual that should be included is fire safety with an overall assessment of equipment and procedures in your home and at work.
Now that it's Spring, many people are considering plans for home renovation, garage clean-ups, office organization and restructuring projects. Now is the perfect time to take an inventory of fire protection equipment and procedures both at home and at work and make these simple steps part of your Spring cleaning rituals," says Pat Jaugstetter, president of the Fire Equipment Manufacturers' Association (FEMA, The Life Safety Group).

WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Air traffic controllers today are calling on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to invest the effort and money needed to fix a dangerous and unacceptable glitch in a key airport movement surveillance system that forces it into limited mode during bad weather, defeating its usefulness in helping to prevent possible collisions.
The glitch was exposed in a high profile way recently with a near- collision of two aircraft at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport during poor weather in the middle of the night. Controllers at Boston's Logan Airport have also seen the equipment, known as Airport Movement Area Safety System (AMASS), not work in conditions where moderate or greater precipitation is in the area.

Ranson's Independent Fire Co. is the first fire department in West Virginia and the third volunteer fire department in the country to get a new breathing system that changes the way firefighters are able to work in a burning building.
Using a transmitter, fire officials can monitor from a firetruck the amount of air individual firefighters have left, said Independent Fire Co. Chief Ed Smith. If an air pack becomes low, the person operating the transmitter can send an alarm to that firefighter.
