This paper addresses the effects of environmental contamination and positive amenities on proximate residential real estate property values in the United States. Contamination sources include leaking underground storage tanks, superfund sites, landfills, water and air pollution, power lines, pipeline ruptures, nuclear power plants, animal feedlots and several other urban nuisance uses. BANGOR - State environmental officials are reassuring the public about air quality around some schools after a national news report suggested that students in some Maine towns could be at risk from industrial pollutants.
Last week, USA Today published a series of articles that used computer modeling to analyze federal pollution data near more than 120,000 schools nationwide. A number of Maine schools scored poorly in the study, which ranked institutions on projected - not actual - pollution levels.
