As the school year winds down in Kanawha County, air- conditioning problems are making it difficult to hold classes in at least three schools.
Riverside High School and Kenna Elementary School were closed Thursday. East Bank Middle School sent students home Wednesday and again Thursday morning.

Conditions at East Bank Middle School have been anything but comfortable since classes started there last month.
Problems with the building's air conditioning system have left sweltering classrooms, distracted students and concerned parents.

Two important Brooklyn Park community centers shut down this week because of air conditioning systems breaking down during a summer of record breaking heat.
The Brooklyn Park Senior Center on Hammonds Lane closed early Monday and didn't reopen until Thursday because of air conditioning problems, said Mary P. Felter, a spokeswoman for the county Department of Aging and Disabilities.

It will take months and millions of dollars to completely remediate plumbing problems and an ailing air-conditioning system at the Manuel Lujan Sr. Building, but the state General Services Department said Wednesday that it's making progress after reconnecting a sewer line and resealing several toilets.
The department says it is working as hard as it can to keep employees comfortable inside the state office building on St. Francis Drive.

POMONA - City personnel on Monday closed Pomona Public Library and temporarily changed its hours for the rest of the week due to a combination of the summer heat and air-conditioning problems.
The library will be open from 8 a.m. to noon today, Wednesday and Saturday. It will be closed Sunday.
