Some hospice workers in Memphis have found that there are many ways to give gifts to patients nearing their final days, and in doing so, bring moments of joy even as the moments grow fewer. Tori Smitherman, a social worker with Crossroads Hospice in Memphis, said giving special moments to her patients spreads joy in many ways.
The names Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer don't immediately convey the message "Support our troops." Yet somehow these leftist Democrats and other questionable characters made it onto the Veterans of Foreign Wars Political Action Committee's (VFW-PAC) 2010 list of election endorsements. In response to the scandal, VFW national Commander Richard L. Eubank sacked the entire PAC board. In a letter to VFW members issued Monday, Mr. Eubank, a former Marine and decorated Vietnam veteran, said, "It is now evident to most of the VFW leadership, both National and especially the departments, that the VFW has been subjected to extreme negative publicity throughout the nation, and the recent endorsement decisions have, in fact, harmed the VFW's reputation and future ability to fulfill our mission." ...
Stephanie Cook met Assistant Prosecutor Tera Salango under the unhappiest of circumstances - her son had been killed in an East End apartment by a friend. She never expected the young attorney to understand her grief and fear so keenly.
For many Santa Feans, Aid & Comfort is a festive party one night in November. For other Northern New Mexicans, it's a lifeline of support when no other help is available. And for Al Lama, Aid & Comfort is almost a second job -- albeit a volunteer one -- with an organization in which he strongly believes. Lama works days as director of the Civil Division in the New Mexico attorney general's office. Several nights a month -- and much more during the weeks leading up to the annual Aid & Comfort gala -- he attends meetings and contributes to organizational and fund- raising efforts as Aid & Comfort's board president. The local nonprofit organization raises money to pay for medical treatment for Northern New Mexicans with HIV/AIDS who have no insurance and no way to pay for the treatment.
Punish those who failed to help soldiers in need I was enraged when I read the article in The News about Marine Gunnery Sgt. Aaron M. Kenefick and the four others killed in an ambush in Afghanistan. I suggest that the failure to provide support for troops under fire, if available, would be aiding and abetting the enemy. Treason, as defined in Article 3 Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, is as follows: "Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.
