FIGHT LAWSUIT AGAINST POLICE
Matthew Romero was killed after selling close to a pound of cocaine to an undercover policeman. He was armed and he hit his daughter's car and a police officer with his truck before he was killed by police while attempting to flee. His actions warranted the actions of the police. Police later found four pounds of cocaine and 11 firearms in his house. The family's attorney, Dan Marlowe, is quoted as saying, "Dope dealing is not a death-penalty case." He is very wrong! This most certainly is a dope-dealing death-penalty case. Matthew Romero was selling shattered lives and was most certainly selling death for money! I implore all law enforcement agencies involved to defend themselves vigorously against this liberal lawyer. It's attorneys like these who help kee...

The other room, where the nattily dressed DJs succumbed to the dancing needs of a giant mass of people by taking few risks, had the feel of a giant wedding or bar mitzvah reception. There was no house or electronica or electroclash--simply Madonna, Salt 'n' Pepa, tons of '70s disco. And that worked, too--it was fun, in the same way it's fun to dance with your tipsy uncle to "It's Raining Men" at your cousin's wedding, all self-conscious smiles and rapidly running panty hose. You know, as a Roman centurion runs by.
What's interesting about both [Calvin Johnson] and Tender Forever is they both inhabit a new musical space, one that's punk rock in its DIY faculties but quiet, introspective and generally acoustic--or at least clean--in its sound. Johnson's solo work, for instance, is marked ...

CITIZEN INPUT VITAL TO DEMOCRATIC PROCESS
I recently did something I almost never do. I took the time to e- mail my city councilman on a local issue I felt deserved some attention. I e-mailed the councilman with my concerns, using his e- mail address posted on the City Council's Web site.

Another Santa Fe AIDS program will bite the dust in a few months, a victim of rising health-care costs, increasing enrollment and dwindling funds.
AID and Comfort, the nonprofit that is folding, had paid medical bills for HIV/AIDS patients since 1989, according to Executive Director Judy Haase. However, Southwest C.A.R.E. Center, an HIV/ AIDS clinic in Santa Fe that looks after

It's just such a natural fit for New Mexico to be at the forefront of something like this," Film Office Director [Lisa Strout] says. "This is a state that really respects the environment, and so it's only natural that we're going to be the first state to really take a stand.
"A lot of people are aware of the issue, but I don't really know of anyone who has studied the impacts extensively," New Mexico Wilderness Alliance spokesman Nathan Newcomer says. "That said, we're obviously supportive of the state's efforts to try and monitor the film industry's impact on the environment."
"This is still in the early stages, but I think it's going to happen really quickly," Strout says. "In fact, I think we're going to be able to see our first truly 'green' production pretty much immediately."

Editor's note: The New Mexican has teamed up with La Herencia to publish stories from the Spanish magazine.
The murder of Faustn Ortiz is a story that Jose "Turkey" Rodrguez lives with every day. It's the story his mother, Luisa Griego Rodrguez, hammered into his psyche as a little boy. Since it was the single most important event in Luisa's life, it was only natural that it be a part of her children's lives, too. Now, a century later, Jose, 79, is the gatekeeper of this tale and, like his mother, he's determined to make sure that it's not forgotten.
