In this paper, two approaches (labor efficiency and separate factors approach) and two production functions ( a ray-homothetic function and the Cobb-Douglas function), are used to estimate the productivity of female versus male farm laborers in the traditional agricultural economy of Nepal. The hypothesis that female laborers would be less productive than males due to the disparities in physical and human capital, originating from economic and socio-cultural discrimination, is tested. The study results confirm this expectation. However, the study suggests that once differences in irrigation and type of seeds used by male and female farmers are included in the model, the magnitude of the difference is reduced and the estimated coefficient becomes insignificant. The ray-homothetic functio...

The importance of modeling farm households in LDC's as being both producers and consumers of the same good has been recognized for some time. Using a Cobb-Douglas specification for the production function and a linear expenditure system, the paper presents empirical evidence of the linkage between the consumption and production decisions of the agricultural household in Bangladesh. In addition, the study finds that the government price support policy for rice results in higher real wages and hence benefits the landless labor.

The Agriculture and Forestry Industry covers a wide range of operations in which products are developed from natural resources. The ongoing economic crisis is likely to make the industries supported by the agriculture sector more cautious in their spending, potentially limiting the demand for agricultural products. Farmers struggle with many of the same issues as other industries, including rising capital expenses for transporting and marketing goods. Like the agricultural sector, the forestry industry provides raw materials to a wide range of industries. The paper, packaging, and construction sectors all rely heavily on the forestry sector. With these industries being impacted by a challenging economy and rising operational expenses, the capital resources they have available for raw ma...
