WASHINGTON, June 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has selected life-long veterans' advocate and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs Gordon H. Mansfield as the Outstanding Disabled Veteran of the Year for 2006. Mansfield, a decorated, combat-wounded Vietnam veteran, has dedicated his life to helping disabled veterans and their families by serving in many leadership roles in private and government agencies.
So far, 388 troops injured in Afghanistan and Iraq have been treated in the Veteran Affairs Medical Center, 500 Foothill Drive. "Nationally, we've seen around . . . 19,000 total," added Gordon Mansfield, deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. And although the VA health-care system is under stress, it's not because of this addition, he was quick to add during a Deseret Morning News interview Wednesday afternoon.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Deputy Secretary Gordon Mansfield, a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, tops the list of those addressing the 2005 national convention of AMVETS, August 13-20, in the Westin Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. Mansfield, who serves as VA's chief operating officer, will keynote a 12:30 p.m. joint opening ceremony on Tuesday, August 16. General Kao, Hua-chu, minister of the Veterans Affairs Commission of the Republic of China, will also address those in attendance.
