The Christmas Bureau reports that while nearly 2,000 families have been adopted for Christmas this year, at least 900 are still on the waiting list.
Adoptions through the Christmas Bureau happen in a variety of ways, United Way spokeswoman Jamie Hornbaker said. Local agencies pull together and adopt a large number of families in need. Others are adopted out by companies or groups and through private individuals. The remaining number of adoptions are made possible through donations to the Christmas Bureau.
