September has barely rolled in, but Chino Hills is already looking for few good Santas to help them make Christmas a bit merrier for local families in need.
The city has kicked off its sixth annual "Adopt-A-Family" program, matching donors with pre-screened, low-income families, said Denise Cattern, city's public information officer. Residents, local businesses and community groups are asked to adopt a small, medium, or large-sized family, providing four to six Christmas gifts to each child. Gifts to other family members are optional.

Many families in the Redlands area face a bleak holiday season this year unless individuals, families, organizations and businesses put on their Santa hats.
Family Service Association of Redlands has identified 100 families in need of Thanksgiving food baskets, Christmas food baskets and toys for children. More than 2,000 children will need Christmas gifts this year.

BLOOMINGTON - Adopt-A-Family is wrapping up a record year giving Christmas gifts and necessities to needy people in the Bloomington- Normal area.
The program served 184 families encompassing 583 people. That's the most ever in 30 years, said coordinator Katie Allen. Allen said 134 families were served in 2009.

NEW HAVEN -- More than 100 homeless and formerly homeless individuals and families in temporary shelters, transitional and supportive housing programs within New Haven Home Recovery Inc. will celebrate the holidays under the Adopt-a-Family Program, organizers said. Many people already have been adopted, but the agency still has families and individuals available. With support, all the agency's residents will be able to celebrate the holidays, organizers said. All donations will be acknowledged and are fully tax-deductible, and donors will receive a profile of the individual or family they adopt.
Donation ideas include blankets, clothes, dishes, toys and books. Those unable to adopt a family may donate gift certificates in any amount for clothing and other merchandise.

Every Christmas for the last several years, the grandmother of three from rural Towanda has been volunteer coordinator for Adopt-A- Family, a program that gives gifts and necessities to clients of The Children's Foundation in Bloomington.
