The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is seeking to have the state pay for at least some of the $167,000 it spent on security in the recent Jessie Dotson mass murder trial. The Sheriff's Office has filed a motion asking a judge to order the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts to pay about $34,000 of that total for the expense of picking a jury in Nashville and ferrying Dotson there last year for a mental evaluation.
Mary Winkler, a preacher's wife who was convicted in April of involuntary manslaughter in the shotgun slaying of her husband in Selmer, has been moved from the McNairy County Jail to a mental health facility. Circuit Court Judge J. Weber McCraw signed a sealed order Wednesday allowing Winkler, 33, to be moved to the unnamed facility to receive treatment for longstanding mental health issues, including post traumatic stress disorder, mild depression and mild personality disorder. "At the provider's request and to ensure she has the treatment she needs, the name and location of the facility are not being disclosed," said Sue Allison, spokesman for the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts.
