Brad Roae says it's incumbent upon House members to forego the cost-of-living adjustment they are due to receive on Dec. 1, because public school teachers and state workers have agreed to one-year pay freezes. House members "should lead by example," just as schoolteachers and state workers have, says Roae, a Crawford County Republican.

  • Family is a key factor to one's development. Family closeness is thus fundamental to the development of happy and competent children and adults. Self-regulated learners usually exhibit greater academic performance. Students who adjust well to school settings build confidence toward learning and exhibit appropriate school behavior. Cluster analysis revealed three stable profiles/clusters. The largest cluster (69%) consisted of children below clinical thresholds for any internalizing or externalizing problem. Children in the next largest cluster (18%) were characterized as having externalizing problems with or without internalizing problems. The smallest cluster (13%) consisted of children with internalizing problems only. Comparison across demographic and violence characteristics revealed that the profiles differed by child gender, mother's education, child's lifetime exposure to violence, and aspec...

  • It may take some getting used to, seeing himself five or six times life-size on a movie screen. But Gregory Lay of Paramus, who has a featured role in the new Matt Damon thriller "The Adjustment Bureau," will no doubt be able to cope. TELL ME MORE: A 1999 Paramus High School graduate and student of The Neighborhood Playhouse, Lay has had roles on TV ("As the World Turns," "Mercy") and off-Broadway ("To Barcelona!"). But he may well step up into a new class with "The Adjustment Bureau," a sci-fi thriller loosely based on a Philip K. Dick ("Blade Runner") short story, clearly positioning itself to be this year's "Inception." In this mind-twister, Lay is congressional aide to politician Matt Damon, whose life is turned upside down when he discovers the shadowy "adjustment bureau" that regu...
