Dear Heloise: I inherited an old dresser mirror with age spots in the mirror's surface. Since it wasn't valuable, I decided to paint and crackle the wood frame surrounding it and add some coat hooks to the bottom. Also, I attached a piece of self-adhesive hook-and-loop tape and attached a dry-erase marker to the frame edge. I put it on a wall near our back entry for hanging umbrellas, purses, hats, etc., and for writing messages. This new invention created at the Technical University of Munich uses a similar hook-and-loop fastening system, except it's constructed from steel. According to an article in the Telegraph, Metaklett uses tiny steel hooks that can attach at almost any angle to create a 0.2 mm- thick adhesive that can hold up to 35 tons per square meter. Though it's being developed for use in vehicle construction and air- conditioning systems, the product's inventors say it's strong enough to potentially be used in the construction of building facades.
