TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's intelligence chief said Thursday there are holes in the U.S. allegations that Iranian agents plotted to kill the Saudi ambassador to the United States, and dismissed the American claims as a "foolish scenario" nobody will believe.
Two men, including an alleged member of Iran's special foreign actions unit known as the Quds Force, have been charged in New York federal court with conspiring to kill the Saudi diplomat, Adel Al- Jubeir. Tehran has strongly denied any link to the alleged plot, and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has accused Washington using the case to divert attention from economic problems in the U.S.

CAIRO, Egypt - Two senior Egyptian police officers were killed Thursday by land mines possibly rigged to explode during a search of the Sinai Peninsula's rugged mountains for terrorist suspects linked to recent tourist resort bombings, security officials said.
Maj. Gen. Mahmoud Adel and Lt. Col. Omar Abdel Moneim were the highest-ranking police officers killed in Egypt since an Islamist insurgency in the mid-1990s, and the first slain since 4,000 security personnel began a sweep Sunday of the northern Sinai for suspects linked to July's Sharm el-Sheik attacks and two October resort bombings.
