Edwin Snell is ticked off at Republican Assemblyman Anthony Adams and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and he wants them out of the office.
Adams' vote to pass the Schwarzenegger-endorsed state budget and raise taxes has prompted the Apple Valley resident to start a recall process.

There's something about the fair that brings out the culinary kid in everybody. A few whirls on "The Tornado" or failed games of "Drown the Clown," and suddenly "What's for dinner?" is fried meat on a stick followed by fried dough slathered in "maple." The first local heirloom apples of the year are showing up in stores, but their stock is low on the midway, unless they're coated in a sheet of sticky caramel or tooth-shattering red candy. At the Champlain Valley Fair, even the most principled eaters end up surrendering to the sizzle . . . of trans fat?
Once you've opted to give your id free rein, though, does it matter whether you get your sausage from Bob's Tower of Meat or Mr. Pork? Don't let the proliferation of products fool you: Not all fair food is created equal. And don't bother ...

ITS not often that Tex Williams is left speechless. The second college basketball game in the Charleston Civic Centers history 2008-09 is the 50th anniversary season of hoops there left the future state coaching legend that way, however. On Monday, Jan. 11, 1960, Williams was an 18-year-old junior guard at Marshall, facing Virginia Tech for the second time that season. The Thundering Herd had won a month earlier, 85-80, at the Logan Field House. The Gobblers had three Charlestonians on their roster led by Charleston High grad and 6-foot-6 junior center Chris Moose Smith, a ferocious rebounder plus former Gauley Bridge High star Bob Ayersman of Boomer. The Civic Center game was designated as VPIs home date, since Marshall had chosen the Logan site. Interestingly, both schools media ...

Excerpts from "The Bible and Its Influence" es On Creation: While some Christians read Genesis as a literal account of how God created the world, most Christians and Jews read Genesis for a different sort of revelation: for the what and why of creation rather than the how. s On Moses parting the Red Sea: With impassable waters before them and the furious Egyptians at their backs, the Israelites appeared doomed. But once more, according to Exodus, God intervened. * On the virgin birth of Jesus: The original word in Isaiah translated here as virgin can mean young girl or virgin. As it is cited in Matthew, however, it forms the basis for the Christian belief in the virgin birth. The tradition states Mary was a virgin when she conceived and bore Jesus. * On influencing American history: Wor...

When it comes to picking apples to press into cider, sweeter is not better.
You don't want to use a sweet apple for cider," said Jay Adams as he turned a wheel to grind apples into bits. "The fermenting process makes it sweet.
