Nonverbal communication is the process of communicating through the sending and receiving of wordless messages. Nonverbal signals have five times the impact of verbal signals. Like the spoken language, body language has words, sentences and punctuation. Besides being aware of your own body language, you must understand what body language means so that you can effectively approach and react to others. The five key elements that can make or break your attempt at successful nonverbal business communication are: 1. eye contact, 2. gestures, 3. posture, 4. smile, and 5. laughter. Your understanding of nonverbal communication will also allow you to become more perceptive in business settings. Being perceptive reflects your ability to spot contradictions between someone's words and his or her ...

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Pirates manager John Russell doesn't have to talk to be heard.
Just ask Nolan Ryan, who pitched his sixth no-hitter in 1990 with Russell -- his Texas Rangers catcher -- carefully signaling every pitch.

Public speaking frightens Don Kosakowski Jr., more than a line drive hit back to the box with 0.7 seconds to switch his glove -- Jim Abbott style -- from his prosthetic right arm to his left pitching hand. Inquisitive first graders are infinitely more unnerving to Kosakowski than competing for the Class M state long jump title, which he captured at St. Joseph-Trumbull in 2005, or his upcoming trip to The Netherlands to compete in the 2006 Paralympic World Championships.
You can train for hours, month after month, year after year, to make a smooth glove transition on muscle memory alone. Or you can spend the hours down at the track, running countless sprints to prepare for competition in the 200 and 400 meters, two other track events that he'll compete in during the Paralympic World Cham...

The leadership of all 11 PICPA chapters has the mission to enhance the PICPA and member value. Some of the actions they have chosen to achieve their goals include increasing volunteer recognition programs, adding events to engage students and emerging CPAs, more networking and family events, and additional local CPE. Successful programs need not be generated by the chapters alone. In fact, several successful programs have come about through collaboration with ...

Nevertheless, well-established, mammoth institutions move forward blindly, attempting to conduct business as usual despite the uncomfortable knowledge that the building blocks upon which their businesses are based are crumbling at their very foundations.

We're teaching our kids that what Jesus, Albert Schweitzer, St. Francis and Buddha taught about compassion and living simply are sweet thoughts, but impractical in today's world.
In Jesus' time, kids played on dirt fields and people buried their dead in the dirt. Their families reburied the bones when the jackals dug them up. They didn't poison the jackals or mow down the wildflowers.

Lewiston continues to be fortunate to have Elaine Makas looking out for its best interests. Makas succeeded in preventing Casella Waste from dumping hundreds of tons of toxic waste into its landfill; sponsored successful state legislation to improve standards for the Androscoggin River; and won the bid to hold the Maine Democratic Party convention in Lewiston in May 2010 ? an economic boon to area hotels, restaurants and shops.
