Thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Homer Skelton Foundation, DeSoto County Schools is establishing a program in six high schools to help students prepare for the SAT and ACT college entrance exams. Poring over a review book at the kitchen table with Mom and Dad or taking a six-week course at the local high school: These used to be the way students prepared for their college entrance tests. Free SAT and ACT Practice Test In partnership with Kaplan Test Prep, the Duarte Public Library will offer free SAT and ACT sample exams from 11:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. Register for the practice tests by Friday, Oct. 14, at any public desk at the Duarte Library or by calling 626-358- 1865. Be sure to bring No. 2 pencils and a calculator. To receive your score back, head to a seminar from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
