The Silk Road Acrobats -- a troupe of ultra-flexible athletes from China -- will entertain audiences with their precision, grace, choreography and, seemingly, impossible feats for two weeks.
The Silk Road Acrobats, who are from the Uyghur region of northwestern China, combine ancient Chinese acrobatics and modern dance in performances tinged with danger and action, as tense audience members watch. The acrobats juggle, cycle, do contortions and flip across the stage. They will spin plates, juggle straw hats, and do the famous lion dance.

The title of Circa's production this weekend at the Byham Theater gives a straightforward and literal summary: The audience will see exactly 46 acrobatic circus acts in a brief, 45-minute show.
And the time element creates an exciting rush for the audience and the performers, as four acrobats race against the clock onstage to complete their acts within the time limit, performer Freyja Edney says.

Jamar Young, a 22-year-old gymnast from Lubbock, Texas, used to have stage fright. He competed nationally and internationally until two years ago, when he was invited to a Cirque training session called a formation. Be prepared to see athletes perform seemingly impossible physical feats at the Golden Dragon Acrobats show, one of its creators says.
The world-famous Chinese troupe of mostly young female acrobats will be coming to the Byham Theater on Saturday to perform two, two- hour shows full of contortionism -- the dramatic bending and flexing of the human body -- along with acrobatic artistry requiring superhuman strength and coordination, says Angela Chang, choreographer and costume designer. For instance, in one act, a woman stands on one leg atop a man's shoulder, and then she climbs on top of his hat and continues holding the difficult pose.

Agile acrobats took over Buenos Aires last weekend during the Miss Pole Dance South America 2011 and Pole Dance Argentina 2011. A blend of gymnastics and dance, pole dancing as a fitness activity has risen in popularity during the past decade, and especially so in Latin America. Pole dancing athletes from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela showed their strength, flexibility, skill and endurance in artful and rigorous choreographed routines. The winner, Maria Luz Escalante, from Argentina, will go on to compete in the 2012 Miss Pole Dance World Championship, planned to be held in the United States next year.
