No matter how "acquainted with the night" Robert Frost may have been, readers tend to equate his poetry with pleasing pastoral scenes rather than with disarming darkness. Chris Longenecker aims to change that perception.

We had a fun visit in Seattle two months ago with 18-month-old grandson Jasper and his mom. Our daughter-in-law, Becky, flew up from Berkeley with him for a job interview. Neighbors across the Greater Memphis area recently gathered for the 27th annual National Night Out . Designed to help neighbors get acquainted with one another, community gatherings ranged from front porch vigils to cookouts to picnic suppers. Visits from local police and Neighborhood Watch coordinators contributed to the police- community partnerships to fight crime across the city.
