Town educators may teach students to think critically and outside the box, but pilot programs are being explored to keep education in the box, or at least within hearing range of the students in the classroom. A presentation was made this week to the personnel and finance committee of the Board of Education about the potential ways to mitigate sound concerns at Walsh Intermediate School. Walsh was built in the early 1970s in is what is described as an "open plan," where the walls do not fully close around a classroom on the sides, nor on the top. This has created concerns as sound can seep out from classroom to classroom. Observations in the presented report state that in extreme cases, there are times when students can hear the teacher in the next classroom better than their own.
In April 2010 while construction was still under way on Armstrong Auditorium in Edmond, the Romeros Guitar Quartet was in town for a performance. The quartet, billed as the "Royal Family of the Spanish Guitar," was in Edmond to perform in the Armstrong International Cultural Foundation's concert series.
