Talitha Washington, assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Evansville, will spend the 2011-12 academic year on professional leave at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Washington is an expert on the life of fellow Evansville native Elbert Frank Cox, the first African-American to earn a doctorate in mathematics, and will spend the year collecting information on Cox's career at Howard from 1929-65.

State Representative Tyler Olson, vice president of Paulson Electric Co., has been named a 2011 "40 Under 40 National Award Winner" by the New Leaders Council. The council makes 40 awards annually to young leaders across the nation to celebrate success in the areas of politics, entrepreneurship, advocacy and media. The award in the area of politics is given to a "leader who has advanced progressive politics in a particularly innovative way or in a challenging environment.

The Boy Scout Troop 414 of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Roman Catholic Church held a bridging ceremony and Court of Honor on March 19 during a campout at Glenbrook Rifle Club. Eleven new Scouts joined the Boy Scout Troop 414 and 10 of whom earned the Arrow of Light.
The members built a bridge to symbolize bridging from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts and all the boys crossed over.

hyperbaric technologist certified
Thomas W. Heller, EMT, CHT, of The Finley Hospital Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine, has been awarded his Hyperbaric Technologist Certification from the National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology. To receive certification he went through a clinical internship of 480 hours. Certification scope of practice includes transcutaneous oximetry testing. This will assist in the evaluation and care plans for patients with lower extremity wound healing deficiencies. He has performed more than 1,000 hyperbaric oxygen treatments since May 2010 and is working to achieve the National UHMS Accreditation for Hyperbaric Medicine and Center of Distinction Award.

The SVP Club recognizes the top five percent of agents for their financial services production in the Heartland Zone which consists of Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

SALT LAKE CITY -- The 71-year history of Salt Lake Utah Riverside Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is peppered with colorful stories of amazing people.
The stake was formed March 24, 1940, from the Salt Lake Utah Stake and includes 600 West to the area of the airport and from 1000 North to 200 South. In 1984, the Center Ward was annexed into the Rose Park Utah Stake.

The Gill Orthodontics Scholarship program awards two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who are in treatment or have completed treatment with Gill Orthodontics. This year's recipients are Neva Graper and Samuel Featherstone.
Graper is a graduate of Gibson Southern High School. Her parents are Donald and Lisa Graper of Fort Branch, Ind. She attends the University of Indianapolis.
