BANDA ACEH, Indonesia - One in eight children in Indonesia's Aceh province are malnourished, disease still stalks refugee camps and relief deliveries are erratic more than a month after a tsunami devastated the region, U.N. officials said Friday. Securing aid deliveries as well as how to cement a brittle cease- fire in their three-decade conflict were the focus of talks Friday in Finland between the Indonesian government and Aceh rebel leaders that were spurred by the tsunami. Separately, Tamil Tiger insurgents in tsunami-hit Sri Lanka said they were temporarily putting their separatist struggle on hold to focus on the disaster.

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia - A powerful earthquake hit waters off western Indonesia early Wednesday, prompting officials to briefly issue a tsunami warning. Panicked residents poured into the streets, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 7.3-magnitude quake struck 260 miles off the coast of Aceh province just after midnight. It was centered 18 miles beneath the ocean floor.

JAKARTA, Indonesia - Coral that survived the 2004 tsunami is now dying at one of the fastest rates ever recorded because of a dramatic rise in water temperatures off northwestern Indonesia, conservationists said, warning Wednesday that the threat extends to other reefs across Asia. WASHINGTON, May 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Two global conservation groups and the U.S. forest products industry have formed a unique partnership to help the tsunami-stricken people of Indonesia rebuild their lives without destroying the already threatened tropical forests of Sumatra. Under a memorandum of understanding signed by the American Forest & Paper Association, World Wildlife Fund and Conservation International, the partnership will seek donations of U.S. timber to be shipped to Indonesia's Aceh province for use in temporary shelter and in reconstructing homes, schools, hospitals and businesses in the devastated region.
