A $46 million/45,000-member Rogue Federal Credit Union, Medford, OR, has developed an award-winning curriculum to accompany a DVD that teaches kids about the value of money, while entertaining them with music and stories. The "Money Mammals: Saving Money Is Fun" DVD, the first video created specifically to teach kids about the value of money, was recently highlighted by The Wall Street Journal as a great tool to teach financial literacy. The teaching guide, written by Kerrie Davis, Rogue FCU's community and education outreach coordinator, recently earned the Dejardins Youth Education Award.

Dads who accompany their kids on the first day of school next week could win a new computer and help spark a communitywide trend of fathers getting involved in education. The Million Father March is a national movement sponsored by the Black Star Project and was introduced to Columbia last year. To participate, men simply have to escort their children to school when classes resume on Tuesday.

Adolescence on film Larry Clark's 'Kids' and Amy Heckerling's 'Clueless' present contrasting views of adolescence on film. 'Clueless' avoids significant social commentary by focusing instead on the trivial pursuits of a group of wealthy teenagers. It shows youths more occupied with fashion since they have become afraid of the health risks that accompany sexual activity. Meanwhile, 'Kids' argues that more teenagers engage in unsafe sex and are likely to do so at a young age.

Looking for a local event the whole family can do? You are in luck. Just around the corner is the 25th Annual Sunset Rotary Club of San Bernardino's TinMan Sprint Triathlon and 5k, plus Kids' Triathlon and Tiny Tots Tricycle race, on June 26. The races start and finish on the beautiful campus of Cal State San Bernardino. The Sprint Triathlon and 5k run, walk or roll start at 7 a.m., with the children's races kicking off at 9 a.m. The children's races are designed for all children, regardless of their abilities or disabilities and for all kids to be able to complete all phases. The kid's triathlon, recommended for children under 12, consists of a 1/ 4-mile run, 1-mile bike and 50-yard swim. Parents are permitted to accompany their youngster, if needed.
