Acciona Energy North America plans to start construction on its second wind farm in Oklahoma during 2010.
The Dempsey Ridge Wind Farm is in development and will be built approximately 15 miles west of Acciona's Red Hills Wind Farm near Elk City, said Peter Kennon, senior project developer.

On Saturday, Acciona Energy North America will mark the completion of the Red Hills Wind Farm in Roger Mills and Custer counties with a dedication ceremony.
While the wind farm spread over 5,000 acres in the Elk City area is the first project developed in Oklahoma by the unit of Acciona Energy of Spain, the company already has two other wind farms in development in Roger Mills and Custer counties, said Tom Hiester, vice president of development for the central region for Acciona.

Oklahoma has the potential to be a major player in the nation's wind power industry with capacity to not only provide power within the state and region but to export power to other parts of the country, said Tom Hiester, Acciona Energy North America's vice president of development for the central region.
But for the state to achieve its potential in the wind power industry, additional transmission infrastructure is needed to move the wind-generated power from generating facilities in western Oklahoma to other parts of the nation, including the Southeast, said Hiester, who will be among the speakers at a conference, "Oklahoma Wind Commerce 2009, The Future is Now," scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday at the Embassy Suites in Norman.

Acciona Energy North America has completed $252 million in long- term financing for the Red Hills Wind Farm spread over 5,000 acres in Roger Mills and Custer counties.
Long-term financing for the 123-megawatt wind farm, which began production in June, took advantage of the production tax credit renewed in February when President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Construction has begun on the 132-megawatt Dempsey Ridge Wind Farm that a subsidiary of Madrid-based conglomerate Acciona is building here, the company announced on Wednesday.
