Gail Landau and I had a good laugh this morning when I told her that a new attorney-ranking site has decided that she is the third- best accident and injury lawyer in Maryland. Ditto Terrence McAndrews, when I broke the news that bestattorneysonline.com says he's the second-best. Landau, as it turns out, is a family lawyer. She doesn't practice accident and injury law. Years ago, McAndrews did a bunch of insurance-defense work, but he never did a significant amount of plaintiff's injury work. He's chiefly a criminal defense and business attorney.

Provisions of a Texas law which prohibit legal and medical professionals from soliciting individuals who were involved in accidents, arrested, or named as defendants in civil lawsuits for a 30-day period are unconstitutional, a U.S. District Court in Texas has ruled in issuing a permanent injunction. The Texas legislature amended state law to prohibit certain professionals from soliciting employment in writing, by telephone, or in person, concerning an action for personal injury, wrongful death, or otherwise related to an accident or disaster. The law also prohibits soliciting persons arrested or served with a summons, or a relative of that individual, for a period of 30 days after the event.
