Memphis police on Friday announced that the mother and father of a 21-month-old boy who died Wednesday were charged with aggravated child abuse, but more charges could be coming. Gary N. Hickerson, 24, and Sabrina E. Hickerson, 22, were booked into jail Tuesday night after a Memphis Fire Department ambulance rushed their son, Adrien, to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in extremely critical condition, according to police and court records.
Q My husband was emotionally abused as a young boy, and I am very concerned about how he treats our kids. He is a loving and caring spouse, but sometimes screams at our boys and gets out of control. My husband has been in therapy for more than a year, and I've been very supportive and understanding. He feels that he cannot get over what happened to him as a child, and I'm not sure what to do. A I get really tired of adults blaming their bad behavior on their childhood experiences. What happened to your husband as a little boy may have been extremely difficult and perhaps even traumatic. However, that isn't an excuse for his abusive behavior toward his own children.

From an international legal perspective, PMSCs and their personnel raise a number of controversial issues, such as their status under the Geneva Conventions, individual accountability for misconduct in different jurisdictions and the duty of authorities to survey and screen the actions of firms for potentially abusive behavior. Experts from states with a special interest in international humanitarian law and human rights law complemented the list of participants, together with representatives of the PMSC industry and the NGO community. Whenever governments rely on PMSCs in war zones, they retain a responsibility to ascertain that international humanitarian law and human rights law is upheld, and to exercise due diligence.

A federal district court in Oklahoma dismissed a private facts claim when the father of an Oklahoma Army National Guard soldier killed in Iraq sued when photographs of his son's open casket were published. A Colorado Springs nursing home is on the road to recovery in the aftermath of a scathing report by state investigators that found evidence of abusive behavior toward residents, inadequate care, sketchy food-handling practices and blistering hot room temperatures in a summer heat wave. This study investigated the effects of a pregroup motivational intervention for domestic abuse perpetrators. Men presenting for treatment at a community domestic violence agency ( N = 108) were assigned to receive either a two-session intake using the techniques of motivational interviewing (MI) or a structured intake (SI) control. All participants were then referred to a cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) program in groups homogeneous with respect to intake condition. Waukesha Bail for former Pewaukee Ald. Anthony C. Balistreri was raised to $100,000 Wednesday when a judge was told that Balistreri went on a three-day drunken rampage, forcibly stealing a loaded gun from relatives, threatening suicide and making abusive, profane telephone calls to his wife. Waukesha County Circuit Judge Donald Hassin Jr. raised the bail in Balistreri's pending sexual assault case at the request of Assistant District Attorney Brad Schimel, who said Balistreri's recent behavior raised serious safety concerns.
