Violence-prevention tips Violence prevention starts at home with you, said Josh Jasper, director of the Riverview Crisis Center. The organization helps sexual abuse victims and works to prevent further abuse. But there are steps to be taken on a daily basis outside the organization. Here are Jasper's top 10 tips for preventing violence: 1. Teach your children. 2. Be a positive role model. 3. Donate. 4. Speak out against sexism. 5. Question your attitude toward women. 6. Redefine manhood. 7. Use your influence. 8. Respect others. 9. Volunteer. 10. Educate yourself.

When stories of child sexual abuse hit the media and the victim is a teenager, or perhaps even a little younger, faulty underlying assumptions about the victim's responsibility emerge. Many also jump to troubling conclusions when the victim is an adolescent or teenage boy.
Memphis has seen a rash of such stories lately, most recently during testimony in the James Hawkins murder trial. While the alleged offenders may be teachers, coaches, pastors, parents or caregivers, the public sometimes believes the victim is blameworthy as well.

BLOOMINGTON - Two teenagers told their stories of alleged sexual abuse Tuesday to a jury considering predatory criminal sexual assault charges against a Bloomington man.
Willie Cherry, 53, is accused of molesting three children more than a decade ago. Cherry was acquainted with the alleged victims.
