  • At the beginning of "Abduction," Taylor Lautner lies on the hood of a truck as it speeds along a Pennsylvania highway. When the vehicle slows as it approaches a party of teenagers, the young actor was supposed to simply hop off. Instead, he somersaults forward. The film's director, John Singleton, was taken aback by the stunt. After all, you don't put your young star and teen idol at risk.

  • A few weeks ago I was the victim of an abduction. Now, if your mind works anything like mine, when you hear the word "abduction" you automatically pair it with the word "alien." Alien abductions have been claimed for decades by minds seemingly much less nutty than my own, and have been the subject of legend and lore for thousands of years. Somewhat disappointingly, my tale does not include a ride across the heavens with a group of slender, nose- less, big-heads with giant eyes and visible, pulsing brains -- members of an advanced species sent to examine us "primitive" Earthlings and our ways. My story does involve a ride, however, and while I can assure you that there was nary an advanced creature on board, there were plenty of opportunities to study primitive man at his best ... and wo...

  • 'Abduction' Twilight" beefcake Taylor Lautner stars in John Singleton's action picture that was filmed in and around Pittsburgh, and has some superb shots from the region, especially PNC Park. A fine supporting cast -- Jason Isaacs, Alfred Molina, Sigourney Weaver and Maria Bello -- gets viewers past the plot holes that stack up fast. Lautner stars as Nathan, a popular high school wrestler who doesn't feel right about his life. When he comes across a photo of himself as a child on a missing person's website, he confronts his mom (Bello). Eventually, he contacts the website, and things spin out of control. The site is a front for a terrorist who's looking to abduct Nathan, and trade him to his real dad for confidential government info. Nathan won't be caught that easily, though. As he l...

  • Abduction" (PG-13): Teen fans of Taylor Lautner's conflicted werewolf Jacob Black in the teen vampire "Twilight" films (all PG- 13s, so far) may want to catch him in this contrived and convoluted thriller. If they pay matinee prices, they won't feel too shortchanged, and it's OK fare for most teens. Lautner's acting range hasn't grown much beyond sullen and more sullen, but that works well enough with this story.

  • Back at the command post, Zola's father thinks to himself "all the meetings and anti-violence press conferences won't help my daughter now"! "All the calls to stop violence in the community will not and have not prepared my young daughter for what she is going through!" The only thing that is going to give her the capability to survive this situation is real life pressure training, knowing what specifically to do and what techniques to use. The only comfort you get is knowing you took your daughter to that "Safe Escape" anti-child abduction seminar two months before. You remember how the instructor forcefully pulled her into his vehicle and demonstrated the tactics to use, and how she was shown to crash the abductor's automobile using a technique called the "shock ram. [Zola] is also t...
