Out-of-class involvement provides students with opportunities for rich social lives which, according to Cheng (2004), are closely associated with sense of campus community. Based on Astin's (1984) Theory of Involvement, and Boyer's (1990) principles of community, the purpose of this study was to examine how involvement in out-of-class activities influences students' perceived sense of campus community. Three hundred and thirty respondents completed an on-line questionnaire which consisted of demographics and questions related to their out-of-class involvement in 14 areas as identified by the institutions' Dean of Students Office, and a 25-item sense of community scale developed by Cheng (2004). Out-of-class involvement levels were examined using a hierarchical cluster analysis. Explorat...

Foucault's analysis, I contend, can be considered in terms of a strategic model which focuses not so much on the question of right, but rather on the mechanisms through which power effects are produced.2 Instead of fixing the legitimacy of science or asking what is the proper domain of a certain knowledge, Foucault examines the role of certain knowledges in the production of effects of power. Science, allied with state bureaucratization, disempowers the public's opinion formation and uncouples political decision from the public sphere of the lifeworld; democratic decision-making loses its function, and state technocrats take over the role in the decision-making of social and political issues. In Knowledge and Human Interests, Habermas differentiates three distinct forms of knowledge, ...

Several organizations choose to be process-oriented. Process orientation means focusing on business processes rather than emphasizing functional structure or hierarchy. In this paper is discussed. The a priori model consists of ten dimensions, each operationalized by several indicators. The paper applies a factor analysis to the a priori model by using data from 133 Austrian corporations in order to investigate the underlying data structure. The result of the paper is a revised model with newly developed unidimensional factors, each measuring a certain dimension of process orientation.
