We cleared the codes, and they did not come back. On our computer hookup, the PCM in VTD Fail Enable says "yes." We've done all the simple checks. Fuel pressure is good, we changed plugs (two were running rich), changed the cap and rotor (signs of carbon tracking), changed the PCV and fuel filter and checked the wiring harness for corrosion. We also checked the battery and charging system.

This problem is difficult to diagnose with the limited information provided. Are there any driveability problems? How did you test the O2 sensor: direct or through a scan tool? How did y ou determine that the system is staying in open loop? There are many factors that are used to determine when a system will enter closed loop depending on the y ear, manufacturer and engine management system used. The three main factors are coolant temperature, O2 temperature and run time.

I made a vacuum test on the EGR, and it moved freely with a minimal vacuum loss. To document it, I took EGR vacuum drop readings, comparing them to my friend's EGR on his Tahoe. At the end, the readings showed both EGRs holding vacuum, the needle slowly dropping from 18 inches to zero in two minutes, and his Tahoe is working fine.

If you are reading 5 volts on the TPS signal line with a closed throttle, you can bet that the system is in clear mode when cranking. Whenever the TPS is above a certain voltage during a certain rprn range, the system will shut down the injectors. These limits can vary among manufacturers but are typically anything over 3.5 volts (TPS) and engine speed under 300 rpm. What concerns me is that the TPS voltage returns to normal after starting,
